THE AURAL COMPONENT.

The term SONIC ART refers to art that uses sound as its primary medium.

Unlike music (which has historical connotations and a long tradition of employing only certain categories of sound) Sonic Art is free to explore the entire range of human aural experience. This is largely because it was prompted by, and grew hand in hand with the evolution of sound recording and reproduction.

First known as 'Electronic Music' or 'Music Concrete', the 'Art of Noises' as it is sometimes now labled, has evolved into a potent expressive genre, capable of delivering a powerful contemporary cultural experience.

The sonic artist is a specialist in mobilising the psychology of our everyday aural experiences, exploiting our habits of hearing in the production of moving and meaningful art.

THE VISUAL COMPONENT.

Although my prime concern is sound, I have over the years developed ways of using what I hope are complementary visual images.
This is not a cinematic approach, as I am concerned not to allow the visual to overpower the sonic, as it usually does in that genre.

The question of whether to include an image (or not) is one of my many creative dilemmas.
